Gripon Mobile Solutions started as a Barcoding/POS business (The Barcode Approach) in 1995. Since the very beginning the major focus of the business has been customer service and providing value for money. The Barcode Approach was started as a Sole Trader business by the Managing Director Ces Luscombe. The original place of business was Ferny Hills in Brisbane. In 1997 The Barcode Approach became Gripon Mobile Solutions Pty Ltd and in 2000 moved to larger premises at Kelvin Grove, Brisbane. In December 2006, Gripon Mobile Solutions moved to its current premises in Yeerongpilly, Brisbane.

In 1995 Gripon built it's first barcode reader for mobile devices (for the Apple Newton) and a succession of devices followed with the Lasergrip and the Grabba to follow. In 2002 Gripon launched it's Grabba product to the world market by exhibiting at PalmSource San Jose, California and setting up a USA sales representative. Sales and development of the Grabba product continued at Gripon until in August 2003 the Grabba product was spun out into Grabba International Pty Ltd. Grabba International now operates as a standalone business and has since developed newer models and is the leader worldwide in development and manufacture of addon devices for PDA and Smartphones.
